Known as Cottage 1685, this historic cottage from 1901 was built by Sir Herbert Baker for Cecil John Rhodes. Guests will be able to experience a bygone era as you relax in your private villa and garden. Breakfast is prepared daily by your housekeeper. This cottage is located 2.2 km from the property's restaurant and deli. Please note that the price is based on 6 guests. Maximum occupancy is 10 adults (see Hotel Policies). The extra person rates vary according to the season and may be lower than indicated in the policies.

“Relaxing stay in stunning scenery with very attentive service”

Stunning setting, spacious and spread out so immediately feels relaxing. It’s maintained to a high standard but not too fussy in design. Cottages were well appointed and stylish. The breakfast provided at the Werf is one of the best and most generous hotel breakfasts I’ve had! The carrot muffin is beyond amazing! Lots to do at Boschendal itself, riding, wine tasting, picnics, bike rides, lazing by the pool - it catered for our whole family. The management staff were excellent. We had a few small issues with our stay and Marcus and Malvina were incredibly attentive and delivered a service beyond anything I have experienced at any hotel around the world, in terms of making us feel valued.

*Exquisite venue, beautiful vistas, the view from every part of the farm was breathtaking, *Well- run establishment and surroundings. *Friendly, efficient staff, nicely furnished cottage with all the necessary amenities and cosy fireplace. *Lovely touches with the orchard fruit offered for free wherever you go. *Swimming pool area relaxing and beautiful. *lovely outdoor area and braai *Very attentive, friendly, polite staff on all parts of the farm, restaurant, deli, gift shop.

Boschendal was stunning and we loved our Retreat Cottage for our family of four. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly and the facilities were all beyond our expectations. Great breakfast with beautiful views. The wine tasting situation was initially not ideal because they seemed to be very crowded and stressed, but it all worked out in the end and they went out of their way to make up for it. The wine was great.

The Retreat was perfect. Being able to walk to breakfast and dinner without reservation was exceptional. All the cottages very well equipped. It was a little chilly when we arrived despite December. The wood burner was ready to go and the wood and kindling re-stocked each day. Sitting on the ‘stoop’ in the morning and evening listening to the sounds of Africa was delightful. Highly recommend.
